Music is an important tool in language instruction, especially authentic music with older learners. I find incorporating music helps engage my students both linguistically and culturally and can be a great resource for the modeling of Spanish grammar. The material is authentic and there is repetition of the target forms.
I usually have them listen to the song (once or twice) and fill in missing words or phrases (i.e. the focal grammar point). For many structures that are not intuitive for Anglophone learners, correct modeling and natural context are very important.
With this blog I plan to post songs I come across that can be used for grammar instruction in the classroom. I hope that the archives will be a rich collection for other educators to utilize. It is a lot of work finding valuable songs for grammar instruction, and I believe Spanish educators should share this knowledge. Song suggestions from readers will be posted as well, and I encourage all comments. If you are interested in being a guest blogger and sharing a special song you use for a certain grammar point, please be in touch!
¡Gracias a todos!
